HL7 Engine

In order to handle information transfer between IMS applications and external information systems, (eg. Hospital Information Systems (HIS), PACS in Radiology) IMS uses a combination of file transfer and data encoding/ decoding.

The process of encoding / decoding is called an interface engine. The IMS HL7 TCP/IP Protocol Adapter provides a bi-directional interface over TCP I/P between IMS applications and external system using messages encoded according to the Health Level Seven (HL7) Standard. HL7 is an International Standard message format for electronic data exchange between health-care systems.

Since 1987, a number of versions of the HL7 Standard have been published. IMS HL7 TCP/IP Protocol Adapter supports HL7 version 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.5.1 and 3.0.
